More importantly, now another console manufacturer (hint:they’re not Nintendo) has decided to follow suit. Joystiq has reported that the recent screenshots indicating likewise integration to Sony’s PSN service are indeed confirmed, as the upcoming firmware 3.10 update will be blessing PS3 owners with Facebook. Twitter and Last.FM were not mentioned, but Facebook is a guarantee. Unlike Microsoft’s offering, Sony’s built in web browser will permit Facebook on PS3 to allow users to sync their new feature with their PC Facebook accounts. This will automatically update any Trophy acquisitions and items purchased via PSN to their Facebook pages, in addition to letting developers communicate with gamers in regards to updates and information for their games.
We all know Sony has dusted themselves off and emerged victorious in hardware sales for the past 2 months, and it’s not surprising that they wish to thwart Microsoft’s attempt to regain momentum via these services. But the point here is simple: Instead of developing new, innovative ideas to make their product fresh and interesting, they’re simply trying harder just to make Microsoft seem stale by taking the “we have this too!” approach. I hold no bias or favoritism towards either side, I’m just calling it as I see it. First Netflix, now Facebook…what’s next? Hey, maybe Sony will get cross-game chat! Wouldn’t that be sweet? Wouldn’t it? I want to love you Sony, I really do…please let me love you.
For further details and uneventful broo-ha-ha, clicky clicky on this here thingy.
