August 12th, 2009 — crazygamers I don’t want to start an all-out war on Bioshock 2 because I know that certain decisions in this upcoming game have brought a fair amount of controversy, but this intrigued me. Destructoid has posted that concept artist Colin Fix, who is preparing artwork for the title, has revealed his final design for the Big Daddy in the game, which also happens to be its playable character. Now, the game has been criticized for many things, all of which are valid in their reasoning and I can understand, but one criticism I feel is unfair is that “people don’t want to play as a Big Daddy.” The same has also been said that this will make the character seem too God-like, and present the player with no real challenge, minus the rather nimble Big Sister.
However, this design looks awesome. It looks substantially different from the Rosies and Bouncers and the like from the first game, and is conspicuously slimmer. Don’t forget that Jack turned into a Big Daddy at the end of the first game, and I don’t think it hurt the gameplay experience, considering that Fontaine boss fight wasn’t exactly a cake walk. This new Big Daddy design seems like it will make the game challenging enough while still being a badass as a playable Big Daddy, and if nothing else, it’s Bioshock. E boner confirmed. Check out the details here.
